Kevin Paul Hockenberry is Assistant Professor of Dance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, as well as the Executive and Artistic Director of Emote Dance Theater.
Kevin earned a Master of Fine Arts in Dance: Creative Practice with a Certificate in Dance Management as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts: Liberal Education for Arts Professionals (LEAP) Cum Laude from Saint Mary’s College of California. He also holds an Executive Director Certification from Compass Point.
Professional affiliations include the American College Dance Association, the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, and the National Dance Education Organization.
As a choreographer, Kevin has created works for Nevada Ballet Theatre, Ballet Lubbock, Emote Dance Theater, Saint Mary’s College of California, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Marin School for the Arts, Soo Dance Academy, and Stapleton School for the Performing Arts. Residencies and festivals include the Shawl Anderson Dance Center Artist-in Residence 2013, Garage Artist-in-Residence 2014, SafeHouse Arts Resident-Artist-Workshop 2015, and Summer Performance Festival 8.
Performing experiences include Menlowe Ballet, Mudita Arts for Peace, Company C Contemporary Ballet, Nevada Ballet Theatre, Nashville Ballet, Nashville In Motion, Ballet Austin, as well as guest appearances with Ballet Repertory Theatre of New Mexico, Ballet Lubbock, and the Texas Tech University Opera. Additionally, Kevin has performed works by choreographers Twyla Tharp, George Balanchine, Thaddeus Davis, Jodi Gates, Maurice Causey, Viktor Kabaniaev, among others.
As an educator, his experiences have taken him to schools throughout the country, including Pennsylvania, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and California. Kevin has been a faculty member at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Saint Mary's College of California, Marin School for the Arts, Stapleton School for the Arts, Soo Dance Academy, and Ballet Lubbock. His training comes from institutions such as Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Ballet Academy East, Ballet Lubbock, University of Utah, and Elite Ballet.
